The Academic Society is delighted to announce that Commerzbank is our new partner and welcomes Philipp Encz as a new member to the Corporate Advisory Board!
Philipp Encz is the Head of Group Communications at Commerzbank AG. This role encompasses Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, Brand & Research, as well as the Commerzbank Foundation. Previously, Philipp led all internal and external communications as well as all branding, sponsoring, and local CSR activities in Europe for Citigroup. Prior to his role at the major US bank, he spent around eleven years at Bloomberg in New York, Munich, London, and Frankfurt as a TV business journalist before switching to the corporate communications side. For an equally long period, he held various senior leadership roles at Siemens in Munich and Airbus in Toulouse, France.
After completing a banking apprenticeship in Munich, Philipp studied Business Administration and International Management at ESB Reutlingen in Germany and London. He lives with his wife, two daughters, and two dogs in the north of Frankfurt.

We spoke to Philipp about his motivation to join the Academic Society, what he enjoys most about his job and which research project he would like to conduct. We also got a peek into his personal life.
Why did you decide to partner with the Academic Society?
The communications field is ever-changing and transforming at a rapid pace. You need to stay on top of your game to sustain impact at your organization and in your team. The Academic Society is both a knowledge hub and a driver of modern communication thinking, and consequently an important enabler of state-of-the-art communications for leaders and team members alike.

Beyond the hype: The true economic and psychological benefits of a broad-based AI implementation in a communication function.
What do you enjoy most about your job as Global Head of Communications, Public Affairs, Brand at Commerzbank?
Receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback for an adapted communication style, putting people first, communicating in a human and ideally bidirectional way by enabling relevant conversations.

If you weren’t in communications, what career path do you think you would have pursued?
I like to create stuff: So, either music production or engineering.
What is a favorite quote or saying that you find yourself coming back to often?
