Dr. Christopher Ruppel is a research associate at the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna and a member of the Corporate Communication Research Group (CCom). He studied communication, economics and marketing at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and holds a PhD in communication studies from the University of Vienna.

One focus of his research addresses the interplay between organizational communication and stakeholder-organization relationships, where he is particularly interested in the negative manifestations in addition to the positive ones.

Another focus of his research is the communication during crises. In his dissertation he dealt with consumer disidentification and consumer identification in the context of corporate crises. His most recent research projects investigated the effects of internal organizational communication on employee disengagement and engagement in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current research project “The scopes of action of internal communicators”, which Christopher Ruppel will implement together with Julia Stranzl from February 2021, builds on this research.
